The US government is offering up to $ 10 million for information leading to the identification of Mohammed al-Golani, the leader of Fatah al-Sam, the former al-Qaeda operative in Syria, the State Department said.
This is the first time that a remuneration has been offered by the US State Department, with the aim of being an executive of the organization, it is clarified in the announcement.
Fatah al-Sam, formerly known as Jabhat al-Nusra, is a well-organized and experienced jihadist group operating in Syria.
The group claimed to have broken off ties with al Qaeda in 2016, but Washington, which continues to call it the Al Nusra Front, did not take the allegations seriously.
The al-Nusra Front remains al Qaeda's arm in Syria, the Department said.
The United States recently launched several airstrikes in Syria against the organization, killing many of its executives and fighters.
