Over 3.2 million students are victims of school bullying, according to research that has been done, which has shown that this phenomenon, unfortunately, also occurs in Cypriot schools.

The Office of the Commissioner for Voluntary and Non-Governmental Organizations states that according to relevant surveys, 17% of students belong to the category of perpetrators or victims and/or to the group of students who sometimes exhibit bullying behavior while sometimes becoming the targets themselves, adding that Non-Governmental Organizations focusing their attention on children have been active in our country with the aim of creating mechanisms of prevention and support for children who belong to any of the above categories.

Referring to the International Day against Bullying and Bullying, he writes that it is an opportunity for students, teachers and parents to exchange thoughts, ideas and experiences, to be informed or to propose ways to prevent and deal with school violence and bullying .

"Every member of the school community has a role and responsibility in dealing with school bullying. The degree of involvement of each member is related both to their status and to the seriousness, frequency and intensity of each bullying incident. Each member has a different role to perform, since the role and responsibility of the school director, another of the teacher, another of the classmates, and another of the parents are different. However, everyone should cooperate in a framework of parallel and interconnected actions", he notes.

Additionally, he states that "this particular day is also an occasion for the State, in collaboration with the above groups and Non-Governmental Organizations, to draw up a single policy against school violence", adding that "through this policy, the children to report every incident of bullying or violence without hesitation, to propose measures to eliminate juvenile delinquency and to create a school environment where the feeling of safety will prevail and mutual respect, cooperation, friendship, acceptance, and team spirit will be promoted" .
