The Famagusta District Court in Paralimni yesterday sentenced a 10-year-old man from Ayia Napa to 39 days in prison immediately, after he pleaded guilty to the offenses of negligent driving, leaving the scene of an accident without assistance. alcohol, the use of a motor vehicle without a safety certificate and a certificate of conformity and the driving of a motor vehicle with an invalid registration.

The offenses were committed on August 8, 2015 when the 39-year-old had hit with his car, a moped driven by a 67-year-old from Xylofagou on the old Xylofagou-Ayia Napa road in the direction of Ayia Napa.

The 67-year-old lost control of the moped, as a result of which he left the road on the left side and fell to the ground. Since the fall, the 67-year-old, who was not wearing a protective helmet, was injured and was transported by ambulance to the Famagusta General Hospital in Paralimni, where he was kept for treatment after the doctors on duty diagnosed him with bruises on various parts of his body.

Investigations by the men of the Xylofagos Police Station identified and interrogated the 39-year-old from Ayia Napa, who made a voluntary statement, where he admitted that the moped was moving on the road at a very low speed, did not notice it in time and hit it from behind.

The 39-year-old then developed speed and escaped, leaving the 67-year-old on the ground without stopping to provide him with any assistance.

The 39-year-old underwent an alcohol test and it was found that at noon, about six hours after the accident, he had 41 micrograms in his exhalation instead of 21 which is the allowed limit, even telling the Police that he had consumed his last drink around midnight.
