A new family tragedy occurred this morning in the community of Pervolia in Larnaca with the victim being a 77-year-old woman, who fell dead from the bullets of her 80-year-old estranged husband. The crime took place in a house inside a farm in the area of ​​Pyrgos of Regina, near the Journalistic Village.

Apparently, the husband fired five shots at his wife with a revolver.

This is an elderly couple who have two adult children. The victim is Zoe Katsari, 77 years old, and the perpetrator is Giagos Katsari, 80 years old.

Based on the information available, the couple was in a relationship and it seems that there were financial differences.

The victim lived in the farmhouse where the crime took place. Present at the murder was the domestic helper, who lived with the 77-year-old and who was the person who notified the Police.

The perpetrator, who remained at the crime scene after the murder, was arrested by the Police and according to the latest information available, he is said to have admitted to committing the murder.

According to the spokesman of the Larnaca Police Directorate, Lieutenant Charalambos Zachariou, "today around 09:30 in the morning, an 80-year-old man from Larnaca seems to have shot his 77-year-old wife with a firearm, resulting in her fatal injury. The victim was transported to the Larnaca General Hospital while the police investigations are still in the initial stage ".

Answering a relevant question, Mr. Zachariou said that "the motives of the case are being investigated. It appears that the perpetrator fired a number of shots at his wife. The firearm that has been used has been located by the Police while the perpetrator was transported to the Kiti Police Station where he gives a written statement and seems to be cooperating with the Police ".

He also noted that "the 80-year-old suspect is expected to be brought before the Larnaca District Court tomorrow for the issuance of a detention order".

Information states that the revolver used by the 80-year-old against his wife is quite old and it seems that he did not possess it legally.

The motives for the murder are attributed to financial disputes, since according to information, the couple often quarreled over money.

The retired couple worked for years at the Larnaca General Hospital, the 80-year-old as an employee and the 77-year-old as a midwife.
