According to the Chairman of the Interior Committee, Eleni Mavrou, the municipal elections will be held normally in December. Convergences of the parties in relation to the necessity of reduction and / or grouping of the Municipalities. Different views on the number and details of the reduction.

The debate in the Parliamentary Committee on Internal Affairs has resumed, on the bill of the Local Government reform. The members of the Committee held a first discussion and exchange of views, in the presence of the Director General and technocrats of the Ministry of Interior.

Ms. Mavrou informed that there is nothing in the bill that will affect the smooth conduct of the December elections, as even if the proposed bill is approved, it will take some time for its implementation.

Convergences of the parties were observed for the necessity of reducing the number of Municipalities, as well as in the assignment of responsibilities to the District Complexes that will be created based on the new legislation. Convergences were also observed in the delegation of responsibilities in relation to Water Supply, Sewerage and solid waste.

There was also a discussion on the consolidation of town planning permits, building permits and final approval, but there is no final agreement, as there are many details that need to be explored.

The next meeting of the Commission will be held on 22 September.
