In a meeting held on Friday 10 June in the office of the Mayor of Ayia Napa Mr. Giannis Karousos and which was attended by the Deputy Minister under the President Mr. Costas Petridis and the Mayor of Paralimni Mr. Theodoros Pyrillis were discussed the three main pillars of the Presidency.
The Deputy Minister informed the two Mayors about the creation of a Ministry of Tourism with horizontal responsibilities that will contribute to our country having a modern tourism policy, for the simplification of laws and regulations governing tourism issues, which will reduce bureaucracy but at the same time , will facilitate both the public and the business world in its faster and more efficient service.
Mr. Petridis also referred to the preparation, for the first time of the National Tourism Strategy, which will include, among other things, suggestions for specific actions aimed at strengthening our competitiveness, the integrated spatial development of our tourism product and the best promotion of Cyprus as a tourist destination.
The Mayor Mr. Giannis Karousos warmly thanked Mr. Petridis for the meeting and expressed his satisfaction for the mobilization observed in the issues of tourism. For the first time, the tourism sector noted, it is at the center of the Government's agenda. "It seems that the Presidency and the Deputy Minister, in spite of the President, have a plan for tourism issues and this is particularly positive for the prospects that tourism has in our country."
