There are no words to describe the last hours of the 30 people who were trapped in a field, just 15 meters from the sea and burned in each other's arms.
According to information, these are families with many small children who abandoned their cars and ran to the sea to be saved.
The testimony of the Red Cross rescuer, Vassilis Andriopoulos, is shocking. As he said, the bodies were located at 03:00 in the morning.
“Lots of cars together, with the doors open, the keys up and essentials inside. The victims were found in a field of 300 - 400 square meters. "Among the dead are children and it is estimated that these are families who tried to leave but did not succeed as they drowned from the fire," he said.
"There is a pile of charred corpses in the middle of a field, just 15 meters from the sea. Police forces have cordoned off the area. "These people must have tried to find a way out to sea but they seem to be trapped in the flames," he said.
The field does not have access to the beach, but has rocks. So it seems that these people, mothers with small children, whole families thought that if they passed through the field they would reach the beach safely. Unfortunately, however, they found that a cliff separates 15 meters from their shore. So they had to choose between fire and the cliff. The flames seem to have caught them and burned them all, without anyone being able to help them.
