Strong earthquake off Mount Athos: What the first measurements showed

According to information from Euro-Mediterranean Seismological Center (EMSC) the exact focus of the vibration is locatedoff the Gulf of Siggitiko in Sithonia namely 33 km east of Sykia and 139 km southeast of Thessaloniki.

The vibration occurred at 14:48 and had focal depth 5 km, according to the same source.

For its part, its automatic solution Geodynamic Institute of Athens measured the quake with a magnitude of 5,4 on the Richter scale.

According to the same source, the epicenter is located 20 km south southwest of Mount Athos and 132 km east southeast of Thessaloniki.

In contrast to the EMSC, the Geodynamic Institute recorded focal depth at 19 km.
