The award, which recognizes the importance of iPods and iTunes to the music world, was given to Eddy Cue, Apple Senior VP in Internet Software & Services. During the award ceremony, Cue even said "the award means so much to me, because music meant so much to him". He also thanked those present on behalf of Steve Jobs's family.
