A 63-year-old man was detained on suspicion of causing a fire between the villages of Lemonas and Pittarkos.
According to a testimony provided by the Paphos TAE, the 63-year-old's vehicle was seen moving away from the starting points of the fire. The fire that broke out yesterday at 15:30 in a rural area between the villages of Lemonas and Pittarkos was completely extinguished around 20: 00 at night
Air and ground firefighting forces were used to extinguish the fire, vehicles of the Fire Service, two helicopters rented by the KD and the aircraft of the Hunting Fund hurried.
In the area where the fire broke out, three fires were located, two in pieces of grain that had not been harvested.
The fire burned a total area of about 3,5 hectares of dry wild vegetation, mainly, but also two fields with cereals of a few tens of hectares.
Specifically, one and a half hectares of dry grass and wild vegetation were burned from the first hearth and one hectare of wheat from the second hearth. It spread over an inaccessible area and burned dry grass and wild vegetation. The third hearth was found on a field bank and burned a hectare of dry grass.
The fire was brought under control around 19:40 last night and under full control at 20:00 in the evening.
From the first moment, the Police and the Fire Brigade realized that this was a malicious act.
