Nine people were killed in a double bombing Wednesday in Afrin, northwestern Syria, an area controlled by Turkish-backed rebel groups that seized it earlier this year, the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights said.
A car bomb had exploded at an Iraqi police recruiting center at Kisak, west of Afrin, and another near a Turkish military base on a road leading to a hospital, the Observatory said.
Turkish-backed rebels took control of Afrin in March after ousting the Kurdish YPG militia.
The Afrin-based insurgents had previously been involved in clashes following a checkpoint, according to the Observatory.
At least four fighters were killed and at least four others were injured in what became known as the Cold War, officials said.
