The 33-year-old father has confessed to killing his wife and four children in Meaux near Paris, explaining that he "heard voices" telling him "to do harm", the city's prosecutor announced today.

According to the results of the autopsy on the bodies of the victims found on Monday night at the family's home, the 35-year-old mother and her two daughters, aged 10 and 7, received "each about ten stab wounds with great severity", he states in public prosecutor Jean-Baptiste Blandier's announcement. The boys, aged 4 years and 9 months respectively, "died of asphyxiation due to drowning".

The findings were confirmed by the father of the family himself, who during the interrogation "couldn't find the element that pushed him" to these actions, according to the prosecutor. "He clarified that, after the events, he "doesn't feel anything" and "feels empty".

The man was receiving psychiatric treatment for psychotic and depressive disorders.

According to the prosecutor, "he stated that he used to take the medication every day which was required - in a non-judicial context - since 2019, but he had not taken it on December 24".

The exact date of the drama was not specified in the announcement of the prosecution. The police discovered the bodies the day after Christmas Eve lying in various rooms of the residence.

The authorities were alerted by the neighbors who became concerned because of the mother's absence.

The prosecutor requested the indictment and temporary detention of the father as part of an investigation for "intentional homicide of minors under 15" and "intentional homicide by spouse."
