Indonesia: Attack on police headquarters

Indonesian police have shot and killed three men, one of whom attacked them with a samurai-like sword and wounded two colleagues at the Riao provincial police headquarters in the capital, Pecanbaru, in Nani.

The second of the three men is believed to have been wearing explosives, according to an internal police report. Another suspect was arrested, while four others are believed to have escaped, according to the same source.

The police report states that the men drove into the yard of the police headquarters with their car before launching the attack.

The Indonesian state news agency Antara reported that two journalists, who were at the police headquarters, were also injured in the attack.

Indonesia television networks broadcast footage depicting a man fallen down with a long sword by his side.
