The alarm was sounded in the early hours of Tuesday in Baltimore, USA, when a cargo ship carrying a container hit one of the piers of a bridge, resulting in its collapse.

The bridge that collapsed is the Francis Scott Key Bridge while the ship that crashed into it is said to be a Singaporean flag.

According to initial information, there were 3-4 private vehicles and seven workers on the bridge at the time of its collapse.

According to a fireboat operator “a container ship hit the Key Bridge in Baltimore. Part of the bridge has collapsed. Fire and police boats are rushing to the area."

The Francis Scott Key Bridge, the largest in the Baltimore area, was built in 1977, is 2,6 km long and is estimated to be crossed by 11,5 million vehicles annually at a construction cost of $110 million.
