The governor of Kentucky, Andy Besir, said yesterday that there are towns in his state that have disappeared from the tornadoes that hit the USA in the previous days, with the top one being the catastrophic tornado of 220 catastrophes in Kentucky.

At least 70 people have been killed, a number that could rise to more than 100. Governor Besir said the extensive damage was hampering rescue efforts in his state, which was hit by tornadoes two days ago, and at least 56.000 homes were without electricity.

More than 40 tornadoes were reported in six states, including Arkansas, Illinois, Mississippi, Missouri and Tennessee.

Dean Chriswell, director of the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA), said rescue efforts were continuing across the area and that there were still hopes of finding survivors.
