The 33-year-old deprived her son of food, locked him in a dog cage and abused him to the extent that he almost lost his life. A court in Krems, Austria sentenced the heartless mother, who raised her son alone, to 20 years in prison for attempted murder and deprivation of liberty and sent her to a forensic psychiatric facility. The verdict is not yet legally binding.
The eight jurors deliberated for more than seven hours before returning the verdict with the judge justifying the heavy sentence for the mother noting that she almost ruined a life physically and certainly ruined hers psychologically.
The child's two-month torture
According to court filings from September to November 2022, the mother frequently deprived her son of food, beat him, gagged him, covered him with ice water and locked him for hours in a 57 x 90 x 69 cm dog cage. .!
Even more unimaginable is the fact that the 33-year-old was recording her son's torture on video.
When a social services worker found the child after a complaint, she was stunned: the boy was 1,65 cm tall and weighed only 40 kg! His body was covered with wounds and bruises from the abuse his mother had subjected him to. Relevant photos were presented to the court.
During his transfer to the hospital, the 12-year-old was in a comatose state and his temperature had dropped to 27 degrees Celsius. "With such a temperature any adult would have died. The child was saved at the last moment," said the judge.
The merciless mother tried to justify herself that the son was unruly and all she wanted was to take care of him. She also claimed that a friend of hers had suggested that she lock him in the dog cage. But her claims were not convincing, and the bar of Justice fell heavily...
