Its pandemic is declining Covid-19, especially in the last ten days, which in combination with other important elements, shows that it is heading towards the completion of its cycle. These data are analyzed by the epidemiologist Dr. Michalis Voniatis, pointing out that in recent days the positivity rate is 2%, in combination with the reproduction rate of cases, which in the last week is below 1%.

Speaking to "F", Dr. Voniatis said that the declining course of the pandemic, which is also associated with the onset of the Omicron mutation, results from the percentage of vaccinations in the general population, which exceeds 70%, but also from the immunity that has been created in the community as over 100.000 people have been infected with coronavirus since October 1st. That is, in about three and a half months it is estimated that about 11% of the population is infected and ill.

"All these epidemiological data contribute to the fact that Omicron has made its raid on the community and is heading towards its end," said Dr. Voniatis, but stressing the need for attention. As he said, we have developed a wall of immunity that seems to leave little room for the pandemic, but the danger is there.

In addition, Dr. Voniatis said that it is estimated that about 20% of the population is immune-free, sending the message that it is useful to continue vaccinations. Vaccination, as mentioned by Dr. Voniatis, increases the immunity to the virus, and thus reduces the chances of something else occurring, which finds suitable ground to "strike".

All the while the Omicron variant spread to the community, it continued to be less morbid compared to the Delta. According to Dr. Voniatis, it presents fewer and milder symptoms, which are more similar to those of the common cold in combination with a sore throat. Usually there are no high fevers, anosmia and tastelessness, symptoms that exist in the case of the Delta variant of the coronavirus.

From 5.000 cases to 2.000

Panic was caused a few weeks ago when the cases that were detected daily reached or in some cases exceeded 5.000. A number that increased dramatically and the number of contacts of those who were found to be positive for the coronavirus, with the result that more and more citizens are in restriction and some of them need hospitalization.

In recent days, the number of cases detected daily by tests, both molecular and rapid, has decreased, with the last 24 hours ranging from about 2.000 to 3.000.

Specifically:

► On Saturday, January 15, out of 95.740 tests, 2.351 cases of coronavirus were detected. The positivity rate was 2,46%.

Κυ On Sunday, January 16, out of 95.005 tests, 1.971 cases were identified. The positivity rate was 2,07%.

► On Monday, January 17, out of 141.213 tests, 2.918 cases were detected. The positivity rate was 2,07%.

► On Tuesday, January 18, out of 104.965 tests, 2.200 cases were detected. The positivity rate fell to 2,01%. Based on the data to date, the total number of positive coronavirus cases in our country was 230.856.
