CYPRUS: Two deaths and 2.587 new cases announced by the Ministry of Health

208 patients COVID-19 of which 68 are in serious condition. 76,45% of patients do not have a history of vaccination.

The Ministry of Health announces that today, January 28 2022:

- 2 deaths from the disease were reported COVID-19, bringing the total number of deaths to 726.

- 208 patients COVID-19 of which 68 are in serious condition. 76,45% of patients do not have a history of vaccination.

- 20 post-COVID patients who have ceased to be infectious (declassified cases), continue to be hospitalized in intubated condition due to COVID in an Intensive Care Unit.

- A total of 110,201 disease detection tests have been performed by the molecular method (PCR) and the antigen rapid detection method (antigen rapid test).

- 2,587 (positivity rate: 2,35%) new cases of the disease COVID-19 detected by molecular tests (PCR) and antigen rapid test (antigen rapid test), raising the total number of cases in 248,941.

The current results are detailed.

A. Deaths from the disease COVID-19:

The 2 deaths reported with the ultimate cause of death attributed to the disease COVID-19, relate to:

- An 74-year-old man who died on January 27 at Larnaca General Hospital.

- An 93-year-old man who died on January 28 at the Nicosia General Hospital.

Therefore, the total number of deaths with the ultimate cause of the disease COVID-19 amounts to 726, of which:

452 men (62,3%), and

- 274 women (37,7%).

The average age of those who die from the disease is 76,2 years.

B. Patients:

In total, 208 patients of the disease are treated in the hospitals of OKYPY COVID-19, of which 68 in serious condition or in MAF conditions.

Of the 68 patients in serious condition, 30 are intubated, 3 are admitted to an intravenous intensive care unit and 35 to an intensive care unit.

C. Positive incidents Covid-19 (PCR test and rapid antigen test):

Of the 110,201 diagnoses made, 5,748 were made by molecular method (PCR) and 104,453 by the method of antigen rapid test, 2,587 cases of the disease were identified. COVID-19, which emerged as follows:

  • 59 cases from 564 samples taken through the process of tracking contacts of already confirmed cases.
  • 47 cases of 2,189 samples taken as part of a passenger check at Larnaca and Paphos Airports.
  • 302 cases from 2,482 samples taken through private initiative.
  • 36 cases from 356 samples taken from the Microbiological Laboratories of the General Hospitals.
  • 1,371 cases from 49,512 samples tested by the antigen rapid test method in private clinical laboratories and pharmacies.
  • 769 cases from 54,941 samples examined by the method of antigen rapid test through the program of the Ministry of Health.
  • 3 cases from 157 samples received under the program of referrals by Personal Physicians and control of special groups through the Public Health Clinics.
