In the first 18 days of the new year, the number of political asylum applications has exceeded 700, a fact that stipulates that this year will also be ominous in terms of immigration. The interior minister has already announced that he will study the Lithuanian model in relation to the immigration problem he is facing due to Ukraine, while maintaining close contact with the French EU presidency for assistance mainly in the return of migrants.

According to data provided by "Φ", 19 thousand asylum applications are currently pending, while in 2021 16.549 applications have been processed - a record number - a fact that indicates that at the rate at which the applications are submitted, there will be no liquidation either. and in 2023. At the same time, the year that just passed, ended with 13.500 asylum seekers, numbers many times those that our country can accept, with the reception system under enormous pressure as it is beyond the possibilities for the standards created .

With these data, the Government through the Ministry of Interior plans the construction of the first pre-departure Center in the Limnes area at a cost of over 35 million euros, for which our country will seek EU support. At the same time, the Supreme Court lit up last year week the green light to the Minister of Interior Nikos Nouris, to proceed with the plans for the creation of an International Court of Protection in the area of ​​Limnes, so that the appeals of immigrants are examined on the spot, after the rejection of their asylum applications, in order to speed up their repatriation procedures.
