The Permanent Criminal Court, which met today in Larnaca, sentenced three people to four and one year in prison, respectively, in a case involving possession of a quantity of cannabis weighing 5 kilos and 800 grams.
Two people, 34-year-old and 24-year-old, were sentenced to four years in prison, while 52-year-old was sentenced to one year in prison.
The case
About two months ago, members of YKAN conducted a search of a vehicle driven by a 34-year-old in the province of Larnaca. During the investigation, a quantity of cannabis weighing 2 kilos and 120 grams was found and confiscated and the 34-year-old was arrested for a self-inflicted crime.
A search of the 34-year-old's home followed, where 350 grams of cannabis, an airtight sealing machine and a precision scale were found and confiscated.
Then, the members of YKAN in the same area of Larnaca province, detected a vehicle moving suspiciously and signaled to its driver to stop, without him doing so, while the said vehicle was located a little later, abandoned and hit on an adjacent road.
Also, a third vehicle was located and stopped in the area, which was moving suspiciously and was driven by a 31-year-old. YKAN members when they approached the vehicle in question, realized that the driver of the second vehicle, aged 24, who had escaped earlier, was lying inside. The 24-year-old tried again to escape, but was stopped by the members of YKAN and in his possession was found a gram of cannabis.
The 24-year-old then allegedly pointed out to the members of YKAN a specific point, where a former man had hidden a cardboard box, which contained about 3 kilos of cannabis. A search of the 24-year-old's home turned up 19 grams of cannabis.
Also, in a subsequent search of the 52-year-old's home, 310 grams of cannabis, a precision scale, an airtight sealing machine and other items were found and confiscated.
