The operation order, which has been launched since last Friday and which concerns the conduct of coordinated operations and systematic controls for the pure prevention and fight against crime, will last for two months and throughout Cyprus, the Police Spokesperson told KYPE. Christos Andreou.

Asked about the main issue published on its front page, on Tuesday, by the newspaper "Phileleftheros", in which reference is made to a 16-page memo sent by the leadership of the Police to all the heads of branches, services and departments of the Police Force, with the aim of preventing and fighting serious and organized crime, Mr. Andreou said it is an operation order, which has started since last Friday and will last for 2 months.

"It is in a global Cypriot scope. A very large number of members of the Police are involved, particularly during the night hours involved in this particular operation order. Basically, this order concerns the conduct of frequent motorized patrols, the conduct of coordinated operations and systematic checks of either vehicles or suspicious persons as well as real estates purely for the prevention and fight against crime," he added.

Mr. Andreou also stated that an investigation is currently underway to determine how the classified document was leaked in relation to the specific business order.

In another question, whether an increase in security measures is expected, at a time when many countries are increasing vigilance levels under the shadow of a terrorist attack, Mr. Andreou said that they do not make any public statement regarding security issues.
