A case of embezzlement with false representations is being investigated by the Police after a complaint was made on Friday (4/2) by a 74-year-old woman in Paphos.

According to Sigma's correspondent, Mario Ignatiou, the elderly woman received a phone call around 09:30 in the morning from an unknown man, who introduced her as a hospital manager and claimed that a relative of the 74-year-old was involved in a car accident and needed 38.000 euros to carry out surgery.

The 74-year-old told him that she could allocate 10.000 euros and they agreed to meet at a place indicated to her by the unknown man. The old woman, after taking the money from the bank, met the unknown man and gave him the large sum of money.

The 74-year-old then reported the incident to the Police.

According to the police, in the previous days, three more complaints were made about phone calls from an unknown man, who was asking them for money.
