Particularly important news for the Mini for its near future, as BMW has decided that for the new generation Mini, which will be unveiled in 2013, will greatly expand the range of models of the company.

Even more interesting is the fact that of all the new Mini we will see, this will be the first purely five-door Mini in history, since the Countryman is both bigger and taller.

From 2014 onwards, prospective buyers of the Mini will be able to choose between the five-door version with more practicality or the three-door version that remains more sporty and classic.

The electronically processed photo is indicative and reveals for the first time the image of the new model.

Retro-modern design and longer wheelbase

Just as it has happened in the other two versions, the next Mini will not differ significantly in terms of its image, following the familiar retro but at the same time modern aesthetics, which has made it so beloved by the public.

Therefore, in the front part remain the large round lights, with LED daytime running lamps, while the bumper changes and acquires greater input emphasizing the sporty character of the car.

From there, on the side, we will not see major changes, with the roof columns remaining almost vertical and thin in size. At the rear, however, although the photo does not show it, the information speaks of a more rounded version compared to that of the current Mini.

Especially now for its five-door version, the company will increase the wheelbase of the vehicle and reduce the size of the front doors, in order to save space for the two new doors.

It is also possible that the volume of the trunk will increase slightly, in order to emphasize the practicality of the version.

The first five-door Mini changes the course of the Clubman, which in its new generation will probably change features and will not bring the side-opening doors of the current model.

On a new front floor and with new engines

What is worth noting in the case of the next Mini, has to do with the adoption of a brand new front-wheel drive platform.

This platform, codenamed "UKL1", will not be the exclusive prerogative of the Mini models, but a little later, it will be the basis for the next generation of the BMW 1 Series, which will be the first front-wheel drive in history.

Returning to the Mini now, the new floor will reduce the weight of the vehicle and offer even more rigidity.

At the same time, due to the fact that it will be used in a wider range of models, it is expected to reduce costs at the same time and therefore the prices of the next Mini.

The same is true for the engines, however, since the new Mini will receive the brand new 3-cylinder with turbo gasoline and diesel engines from BMW.

These motors will have a capacity of 1,5 liters. and gasoline engines will have power from 120 to 220 hp, while diesel will be offered in versions from 80 to 180 hp.
