The E/K and T/K parties that met on Wednesday in Nicosia in the context of the bi-communal dialogue at Ledra Palace agreed that the window of opportunity for the resumption of negotiations for the solution of the Cyprus problem must be used in a constructive way.
In a Joint Communiqué issued after their meeting, under the auspices of the Embassy of Slovakia, it is stated that the participants expressed their views on the topic proposed by the host party United Democrats under the theme "Time is of the essence: Two generations of Greek Cypriots and Turkish Cypriots passed away them in anticipation and disappointment. Let us give the prospect of peace, cooperation, development and prosperity to the younger generations of Cypriots, before it is too late. Let's make geography work to our advantage."
"The representatives of the political parties agreed that today's window of opportunity for the resumption of negotiations for the solution of the Cyprus problem must be used constructively", it is stated in the Joint Communiqué.
It is added that they recognized that - as has become evident from the developments in the Eastern Mediterranean - that there are no frozen conflicts.
Furthermore, it is reported that they agreed that "both communities in Cyprus as well as our neighbors in the Eastern Mediterranean will benefit from a peaceful mutually agreed solution to the Cyprus problem".
It also states that they welcome the UN Security Council resolution calling for an immediate ceasefire in the Gaza Strip and the return of all hostages.
The next meeting of the leaders and representatives of the political parties will take place on Thursday, April 25, 2024, and will be hosted by the New Cyprus Party (YKP).
