At around 10:30 am, the independent candidate for Mayor of Ayia Napa, Christos Zannetou, exercised his right to vote at the BY polling station.
In his statements, Mr. Zannetou stated that he feels happy and excited for this day and wished the election process to be conducted in a civilized context.
"As civilized as the pre-election period was, so calm to proceed today," he said specifically.
"We will expect the results tonight, however," he said. "Whatever it is, it is respectable."
He stressed that the next day must find the people of Ayia Napa united.
Exercising her right to vote, independent candidate Emilia Evangelou-Xydia said it was an important day for Ayia Napa.
"It is a day for all the residents of Ayia Napa, who decide on the future of the Municipality," said Ms. Xydia, emphasizing that the current electoral process is very important.
He called on all citizens to go to the polls to exercise their right to vote.
Asked about her position on local government reform, Ms. Xydia said she was clearly in favor of Ayia Napa autonomy.
