Road Safety Unit of the Famagusta Police Directorate in collaboration with the Municipality of Sotiras, for the high school students of all Secondary and Technical Education Schools of the Free Province of Famagusta, in the context of the efforts made to prevent and reduce road accidents.
The event was held under the auspices of the Chief of Police Mr. Zacharias Chrysostomou, on whose behalf the Assistant Chief of Support Mr. Kypros Michailidis addressed a greeting.
In his greeting, Mr. Michailidis stated, among other things, that "the international community lists as the main cause of road traffic accidents the human factor, which contributes to their provocation by a percentage of 95% -97%. So in our country, the human factor, as was the case in previous years, was the main cause of both fatal collisions and others with particularly serious injuries, as people were stuck in a wheelchair or in bed in pain for the rest of their lives. their".
He added that "given these consequences, both for the people involved in a traffic accident and for their family, as the Police, we are not complacent and we do not remain spectators in the face of this situation. Feeling strongly responsible for every citizen of this place, we have intensified our efforts to achieve the impossible, that is, to ensure a safer road environment for all citizens, regardless of age, gender, religion, color, race, social and cultural background ".
Finally, Mr. Michailidis stated that "last year recorded a lot of efforts on the part of the Police. Sections, actions and innovations were made. New technologies were implemented and new structural changes were promoted in our service. All this had as its main axis and compass a purpose and a goal: our unwavering proclaimed principle for the consolidation of a culture of road awareness to all citizens, to all users of the road network "and stressed that" our concern for 2017 is the intensification of "Our efforts to monitor the road network 24 hours a day, with particular emphasis on the black spots, while during the inspections priority is given to the main causes of road accidents such as the belt, speed, helmet and alcohol."
Speakers at the event were the psychologist Mr. Nikos Ilias and Sergeant 1948 Areti Amaxari of the Traffic Enlightenment Office of the Police Headquarters. This was followed by lectures by Ms. Katerina Panagiotou and Ms. Lena Mavrikiou of the Road Safety Foundation "Georgios Mavrikios".
The event was also attended by the Famagusta Police Director and Assistant Police Director, the Headquarters Traffic Police Chief and Officers and members of the Famagusta Police Department, as well as Mayor Sotiras and the church authorities.
The lecture was attended by 300 senior students from the Lyceums and Technical Schools of the Free Province of Famagusta. Road safety illumination material was distributed to the attendees.
