New revelations about what happened after the train accident in Tempe, are coming to the public, against the background of complaints about the cover-up of the "crime" and distortion of the truth.

The lawyer of the relatives of the victims, Yiannis Marakakis, revealed that - according to the case file - the third 24 hours after the accident, the soil on which the first wagons ended up was declared useless and moved to a private plot. The issue was first revealed by NEA in a report on the 20 "lost" trucks in the Tempe tragedy.

30 trucks removed at least 300 cubic meters of soil from the site, which was leveled soon after

According to the lawyer, the order was given to a contractor, who with 30 trucks removed at least 300 cubic meters of soil from the site, which was filled immediately after. The soil was moved to a private plot and not to Koulouri, along with the rest of the wagons from the commercial train. It was labeled "useless" and may have contained detonating materials, human parts or other evidence.

In fact, the investigator found a year later that the families' technical advisors - who took samples from the scene - were right and that important elements had indeed been removed from the scene.

The contractor has said he received an order from a Fire Service officer.

Also, Mr. Marakakis revealed that material from the recorders has been sent to Great Britain and the supplier company, however, the matter is "stuck" because there is no translator at the Greek consulate in London, with the delay already reaching one week.

As he added, the material has been sent and the British company has said that "in seven working days we will answer you", however, those days have passed.

The removal of a "key" witness

These new revelations are added to the one according to which, suddenly and with an incomprehensible excuse, she was removed from the position of the "key" witness, who had testified to the European Public Prosecutor about the 717 convention, just one month after the tragedy.

According to the Star report, the public official with the initials M.G. she was the Inspector of the Public Administration Auditors for Contract 717. She had aimed from the first moment she got the mandate for the audit, in 2018, to uncover the violations.

He even spent time doing field surveys of the projects. She did her job tirelessly for four years, until one day she suddenly learned via email that she was being removed from her post.

"My participation was terminated on 27.05.2021, the date on which I received by e-mail the modification of the control order, through which I was informed of my replacement (without my request), in the control in question, for reasons of workload, such as they told me," the woman asserted.

However, she herself had never complained of being tired, quite the opposite: she wanted to investigate to the end.

What the witness testified

The "key" witness was called to testify for the first time to the European Prosecutor Popi Papandreou, 30 days after the tragedy.

He disclosed all the irregularities he found and emphasized that the contracting consortium was not paying clauses, despite the delays. On the contrary, he also received compensation, because he employed, as he claimed, personnel and machines which, however, did not work due to delays on the part of ERGOSE.

Successive extensions granted in breach of contractual terms had the following consequences:

The omissions of ERGOSE to impose clauses on the contractor for the delay and in case of his non-response to declare him exempt created claims in favor of the Contractor.

The total expense of 3.332.130,49 euros corresponding to the compensation of the contractor, due to delays (revision expense) paid to him, lacks legitimacy and is ineligible.

This money was paid by taxpayers to have a supposedly safe railway.

The witness is currently working outside of Greece and will be called to testify again if necessary.
