The first case of the Omicron mutation in Greece was detected in Crete.

As announced by the Greek Minister of Health Thanos Plevris, this is a Greek who returned from South Africa.

"It was expected and we expected a case of Omicron mutation in Greece," said Mr. Plevris.

For his part, the president of EODY Theoklis Zaoutis, stressed that "our fellow citizen arrived in Greece on November 26, underwent a rapid test which was negative. "The next day he showed suspicious symptoms, and did a rapid test every day until he underwent a PCR test."

At the same time, Mr. Zaoutis pointed out that later the test result was suspicious for the Omicron mutation, and today the genetic test confirmed that it was indeed a case of the Omicron mutation.
