An increase in the amount of medicine given to the trapped was decided today in the Council of Ministers, said the Minister of Health Popi Kanari after the end of the session.

Today's decision of the Council of Ministers, he said, was about better serving our trapped people in matters of medicines, which are prescribed by their own doctors.

“There was a decision in 2022 where a certain small amount was approved for the purpose of providing medicine to the stranded. This amount, however, had to be increased because the number of patients increased due to the fact that the majority of the remaining trapped are elderly and also due to the aging of the trapped, the needs for nutritional preparations and nutritional supplements, which are outside of the NHS, have multiplied ", he added.

That is why it was decided today, the Minister continued, to cover food supplements and nutritional preparations in addition to the growing needs for medicines so that for purely humanitarian reasons, around 440 of our stranded people have our support as the Ministry of Health in this area.

"I would like to say a big thank you to the Red Cross, which for years has been managing this transport of medicines on behalf of the Ministry of Health to the trapped and against invoices the Red Cross brings this amount and is paid by the Ministry of Health", he added.
