CYPRUS: 6 new deaths and almost 2 thousand cases - Two 66-year-olds died

240 patients COVID-19 of which 79 are in serious condition. 73,34% of patients do not have a history of vaccination.

The Ministry of Health announces that today, January 22 2022:

- 6 deaths were reported with the final cause of the disease COVID-19, bringing the total number of deaths to 709.

- 240 patients COVID-19 of which 79 are in serious condition. 73,34% of patients do not have a history of vaccination.

- 21 post-COVID patients who have ceased to be infectious (declassified cases), continue to be hospitalized in intubated condition due to COVID in an Intensive Care Unit.

- A total of 82,187 disease detection tests have been performed by the molecular method (PCR) and the antigen rapid detection method (antigen rapid test).

- 1,984 (positivity rate: 2,41%) new cases of the disease COVID-19 detected by molecular tests (PCR) and antigen rapid test (antigen rapid test), raising the total number of cases in 234,145.

The current results are detailed.

A. Deaths from the disease COVID-19:

The 6 deaths reported with the ultimate cause of death attributed to the disease COVID-19, relate to:

- A 66-year-old man, who ended up on January 21 in the Intensive Care Unit of the Nicosia General Hospital.

- An 90-year-old man who died on January 21 at Paphos General Hospital.

- An 72-year-old man who died on January 21 at the Limassol General Hospital.

- A 66-year-old man, who ended up on January 22 in the Intensive Care Unit of the Nicosia General Hospital.

- An 89-year-old woman, who died on January 22 at the Nicosia General Hospital

- An 86-year-old man who died on January 22 at the Limassol General Hospital.

Therefore, the total number of deaths with the ultimate cause of the disease COVID-19 amounts to 709, of which:

447 men (63%), and

- 262 women (37%).

The average age of those who die from the disease is 76 years.

B. Patients:

In total, 240 patients of the disease are treated in the hospitals of OKYPY COVID-19, of which 79 in serious condition or in MAF conditions.

Of the 79 patients in serious condition, 27 are intubated, 4 are admitted to an intravenous intensive care unit and 48 to an intensive care unit.

C. Positive incidents Covid-19 (PCR test and rapid antigen test):

Of the 82,187 diagnoses made, 6,229 were made by molecular method (PCR) and 75,958 by the method of antigen rapid test, 1,984 cases of the disease were identified. COVID-19, which emerged as follows:

  • 7 cases from 70 samples taken through the process of tracking contacts of already confirmed cases.
  • 32 cases of 2,172 samples taken as part of a passenger check at Larnaca and Paphos Airports.
  • 345 cases from 3,723 samples taken through private initiative.
  • 14 cases from 232 samples taken from the Microbiological Laboratories of the General Hospitals.
  • 926 cases from 43,328 samples tested by the antigen rapid test method in private clinical laboratories and pharmacies.
  • 660 cases from 32,630 samples examined by the method of antigen rapid test through the program of the Ministry of Health.

In addition, the following tests were performed, without detecting a case:

  • 0 cases from 32 samples received under the program of referrals by Personal Physicians and control of special groups through the Public Health Clinics.
