Earlier last week, it became known in the occupied territories that "Prime Minister" Ersin Tatar had received an invitation from Ankara for consultations at the presidential palace. In Ankara, even the leaders of all the parties of the Turkish Cypriot Right that are represented in the "parliament", ie the Democratic Party (DK), and the Renaissance Party (KA) were invited.

The Turkish Cypriot opposition reacted strongly by supporting Ankara, shortly before the "presidential elections" in October, by "brutally intervening" in the political events of the Turkish Cypriot community. Ankara's invitation was rejected by "Vice President and Foreign Minister" Kudret Ozersay on the grounds that the timing was not right and he did not participate in the trip. In addition to the unfavorable situation, another important reason led Ozersay to an open confrontation with Ankara, with which he traditionally maintains good relations.

Ankara's new move came at a time when the "ruling" Tatar National Unity Party (KNC) was talking behind the scenes with the DK and the KA about forming a new "government" coalition, on the basis of uniting all the forces of the Turkish Cypriot Right. in the "presidential" around a joint candidacy and the formation of a tripartite "government", in which the two smaller parties would secure significant portfolios. The issue was also raised in Ankara at a meeting chaired by Vice President Fuat Oktay, who said that "the presidential election is vital not only for the future of the Turkish Cypriots but also for securing Ankara's new claims in the whole Eastern Mediterranean ". Despite the insistence of the Turkish side, the Turkish Cypriot Right did not manage to agree on a common candidate during the consultations in Ankara. However, the most important meeting was that of President Recep Tayyip Erdoάνan with the "Prime Minister", Ersin Tatar and the leaders of the right-wing parties, during which, according to credible information of "K", it was decided to launch important developments. relating to both Varos and the Cyprus issue. In fact, T / C sources with knowledge of what happened said characteristically to "K": "Varosi will be revived as soon as possible. The decision was made. An action plan was prepared with stages and provisions ".

However, the admission that Mustafa Akinci is a serious obstacle in the implementation of the plans of Ankara and the Turkish Cypriot Right is sufficiently revealing, as a Turkish Cypriot source clarifies: "Our presidential elections are now vital. Ankara and national forces of the Turkish Cypriot community agree on the need to change course on a number of issues. As Turkish Cypriots, we need a new leadership, which will take courageous decisions in the Cyprus issue and in the issues related to the problem that has been waiting for a solution for half a century. "In the event of the re-election of Mustafa Akinci, all these plans run the risk of remaining on hold for a full five years." The above is confirmed by a source in Ankara who is aware of the consultations at the Presidential Palace.

Varosi and the new "law"

In the consultations of the Turkish President, apart from the "presidential ones", the future of the enclosed area of Varosia was also discussed, with Ankara asking the Turkish side to speed up the process of opening the city. For Turkish officials, Varosi is the ace in the sleeve of Turkish diplomacy, which is expected to change balances and data in the Cyprus issue and affect the entire Eastern Mediterranean to which Ankara has been focusing lately.

With this in mind, Erdo .an and Oktay discussed with the Turkish side the plan to open the closed city and the business plan for which Ankara has recently accelerated its efforts to secure the necessary funds for its successful completion. Although few details have come to light, "K" is informed that in parallel with the registration of real estate and the overall picture in Varosi - a process that is being completed this period - the next stage of the plan will take place in the "parliament" . In particular, as soon as the conditions allow it, mainly the pandemic and the "presidential" ones, a law will go to the "parliament" that will concern the Real Estate Commission and its jurisdiction for the enclosed city. Informed sources explain: "We need a new legal framework that will facilitate recourse to the Commission for property claims. With the planned law, old property owners in Varosi and EVKAF will simultaneously appeal to the Commission, which with short but reliable and internationally recognized procedures will resolve the disputes between the two sides. In this way, some properties will be returned to their owners and possibly some to EVKAF ". The same sources clarify that: "In the new Varosi will not have the right to settle anyone who wants, either from southern Cyprus, or from the TRNC and Turkey. Priority will be given to the owners and EVKAF. In the process, however, those owners who wish should have the right to transfer their property to other people. The new law will therefore address these issues. "

Two state solution

Commenting on the critical developments of the previous week in Ankara, Turkish Cypriot journalistic sources note that with the end of the "presidential" and when the new data of the pandemic allow it, mobility should be expected in the Cyprus issue as well. Possibly, from 2021 until the Cypriot and Turkish elections of 2023, there will be a new period in the Cyprus issue, in which the parties will be called to decide on the course of the process that remained incomplete in Crans Montana. A reliable source in Ankara told "K": "The Turkish side has made it clear that the new process will not start from the point where the talks in Crans Montana were interrupted. From the beginning of 2021, new, fresh and alternative ideas and proposals for the Cyprus issue should come to the table. The federal model, as Mr. Nikos Anastasiadis means it, is now a thing of the past, if not for many reasons, certainly for the following important: The doctrine of the Blue Homeland needs the securing of the individual rights of the T / Cs on land, sea and the waters around the island in order to achieve the final successful securing of Turkish interests throughout the Eastern Mediterranean ".
