The streets in Cyprus look like a horror movie when there is a power failure in the evening, since the lighting on the road network is inevitably affected.

One such incident occurred last night in Nicosia, where in many areas darkness fell and the lighting on the road network was out of order.

SigmaLive contacted the EAC Spokesperson, Christina Papadopoulou, in order to receive answers on the subject.

Ms. Papadopoulou stated that when there is a problem, the EAC crew must first go to the spot to look at where the fault comes from, isolate the problem and then repair it for safety reasons.

He added that there are usually alternative ways to electrify the damaged areas until the problem in the area is repaired.

Asked if there is a generator in order to avoid this blackout on the road network, he explained that the street lighting is maintained by the EAC but belongs to the municipality of each area.

Then the Director of the Traffic Headquarters, Haris Evripidou, spoke to SigmaLive, who stated that nothing can be done about the electricity supply from the Police side.

He also said that even if the traffic lights are affected by the power failure, then it is regulated based on the priority, ie the one coming from the right.
