The Spokesperson of OKYPY, Charalambos Charilaou, spoke on Radio Proto about the situation in the hospitals due to the pandemic.
As he mentioned, the occupancy is very high, noting that only in the ICU of the General Hospital of Nicosia, 50 people are treated.
"The pressure is very high and most cases are non COVID. "There have been a lot of traffic accidents lately, while there is an increasing trend in many other diseases."
Asked to refer to the cost of hospitalization of people with COVID19, Mr. Charilaou stated that in the health system of Cyprus there is no separate way of compensation from OKYPY. "It has a complication," he said characteristically.
Based on this compensation, he said, the cost of treatment ranges from 3,500 - 4,000 euros for each case. "But this does not correspond to reality, which is why OKYPY proceeded to costing and concluded that so far the cost of the pandemic in hospitals is close to 100 million."
A bed in the ICU costs 1200-1300 euros per day, whether you have a patient or not, he stressed.
