A criminal case was registered on Monday against a 25-year-old man for breaking into a church and stealing in Latsi.

The District Court of Paphos yesterday ordered that he remain in custody until February 27, the date on which the hearing before the court will begin.

According to the Assistant Police Director of Paphos Operations Michalis Nikolaou, the Police arrested the 25-year-old on Saturday night to facilitate investigations for an investigated case of breaking into a church, theft, and possession of burglary tools.

Mr. Nikolaou stated that specifically on Saturday at 23:20 p.m. members of the Polis Chrysochous police station while on motorized patrol noticed the presence of a vehicle in the area of the church of Panagia Chrysovenetiotissa in the Latsio area.

The police entered the church and found the 25-year-old from a village in the Polis Chrysochous district.

According to Mr. Nikolaou, the 25-year-old admitted that he entered the church with the intention of stealing, saying that its door was closed but unsecured.

As it turned out, Mr. Nikolaou told KYPE, the 25-year-old grabbed various coins of around thirteen euros from the church's cash register.

He confessed to the burglary and the theft of the money, while various burglary tools were found inside the car.
