Two people are in custody for allegedly attempting to abduct children

Two people, aged 24, were detained on charges of conspiracy to commit a crime, attempted kidnapping and illegal possession of property.

According to the Police, a relevant complaint was made by a security guard of a private company of the primary school of Lampa - Chlorakas.

Specifically, the witness reported to the Police that yesterday afternoon around 16:15, while he was in the area of ​​the primary school of Lempa-Chloraka, he saw two children, aged 7 and 13, riding their bicycles and next to them a vehicle in which they were riding. the two arrested, one of whom was trying to "catch the children", according to the complaint.

At one point the security guard shouted when the car stopped near the children and the co-driver - as the guard states in his complaint - tried to get out of the car.

The children were removed, while the two occupants of the vehicle did not leave the area and were taken to the Paphos Crime Detection Department.

According to the Police and the testimony, they did not touch the children.

Interrogators claimed that the driver was trying the vehicle, which belongs to the co-driver, in order to buy it and they did not intend to kidnap the children.

In the possession of the two persons, who are foreigners, keys of two other vehicles were found, for which the Police states that they could not give explanations. The children are expected to give a visual testimony in the presence of Social Welfare Services officials, who were immediately informed by the Police about the incident. Children are well placed with their parents.

In the meantime, the issue of policing the area is brought back by the mayor of Chlorakas, Nikolas Liasidis, on the occasion of this incident and the complaints he has received, which concern residents in the area originating from another country.

Specifically, Mr. Liasidis reported to KYPE that he had sent a letter in September 2019, ie 7 months ago to the competent Ministries and recently 8 days ago he sent a reminder letter to seek a solution.

In the area of ​​Chloraka, as he explains, an intense social problem has been observed with the ghettoization of a large portion of immigrants, about 800 in number. He claimed that some of them are delinquent, drive dangerously and do not know the rules of road safety in Cyprus, while in several cases, he argued, they resolve their disputes by force.

He has received complaints from the two Primary Schools and the two Kindergartens that exist in the area, from parents and teachers because out of a total of 700 students, 300 are from another country, with the result - they claim - that the classes cannot be conducted properly.

Regarding the issue of policing, Mr. Liasidis stated that he is in frequent contact with the Paphos Police Director Mr. Nikos Pentaras and that policing in Chloraka is at a good level.

He added that as K.S. Chlorakas have reinforced the area with three security guards.
