In a statement, the Director of the Fire Service, Markos Tragolas, stated that "after arrangements made overnight at the political level, instructions were given by the Minister of Justice and Public Order to prepare a mission of 60 staff to be ready at any time. to leave for aid in Greece. A team of 60 people was immediately coordinated between the Services of the Forest Department, the Fire Service and the Civil Defense ".

He added that in the mission "four rescuers and nurses of the Ambulance Service were added exclusively for the safety of our teams that will try to extinguish the fire. This is the first time this is done so that we can send a well-organized team. "

Responsible for the mission will be the Assistant Director of the Fire Service Officer B Leonidas Leonidou who will be the liaison of the Cypriot mission and the Fire Brigade or the Civil Protection Service in Greece who will accept the relevant instructions on where and when » .

Asked whether all the necessary security measures have been taken for the mission, Mr. Tragolas replied that "security measures will be taken in the field of operations where an assessment of the situation will be made, an assessment of the capabilities of our firefighters in in relation to the fire fronts and the available support vehicles and will operate accordingly ".

He also reiterated that the team will try to extinguish the fires "under the liaison instructions of the Greek Fire Brigade" since as he explained "this is the process from the experience we have from the previous missions of Cyprus to Greece and especially from its catastrophic fires. 2007 ».
