He pulled a knife from his pocket and stabbed twice, in vital organs, the dog of his deaf neighbor, German Shepherd, causing the animal to die. The Larnaca District Court found guilty, after a hearing, the retired GK, 72 years old, from a town in the province of Larnaca, in a case of killing an animal without a reasonable cause. The offense was committed in June 2015.
Specifically, the 72-year-old was found guilty in both charges. The first accusation states that without a reasonable cause he exposed the 17-month-old dog to pain, suffering and injury, while the second states that he injured and killed the animal in an unacceptable way.

The court rejected what the defendant claimed during the trial, that is, that he stabbed the dog while he was in self-defense. During the hearing, the retiree claimed that while he was taking his dog on a leash for a walk in the neighborhood, the neighbor's wolf dog attacked his dog and grabbed him by the neck.

He was then terrified, pulled a knife from his pocket and injured the wolf dog twice.
The court accepted the complainant's position, according to which the wolf dog saw the other dog and simply tried to approach it to smell it and play together, without biting one animal over the other. "I saw a big hole in my dog's neck and blood was coming out of it non-stop," the deaf-mute owner of the dead animal had reported to the Police and later to the court. The wolf dog was taken to a veterinary clinic, but died the next day.

Judge Loizos Mougis ordered that the accused remain in custody until the next
Monday, May 15, when he will be sentenced. The case for the prosecution was handled by Eleftheria Giakoumetti.
