US President Donald Trump has threatened to impose a 20% customs duty on all vehicles imported from the European Union to the United States after Europe imposed additional tariffs on dozens of US products and a month after the US government launched an investigation. on whether car imports pose a threat to national security.
"If these long-standing tariffs and (trade) barriers imposed on America and its companies and employees by the European Union (…) are not lifted soon, we will impose a 20% duty on all its cars that will imported into the USA. Build them here! " wrote the American president on Twitter.
The US Department of Commerce aims to complete its investigation into whether imports of cars and spare parts pose a threat to national security by the end of July or August, Commerce Secretary Wilbur Ross said yesterday.
