Tomorrow, Tuesday 7/12/2021, the Biology teachers of the Secondary Schools, go on a two-hour work stoppage (3rd and 4th period), for a clearly pedagogical request, which concerns our students and the appropriate teaching of the course.
According to an announcement by the Cyprus Biologists Association:
"We are on strike because:
- Biology must be taught by experiment, not just theory
- Europe teaches Biology in a laboratory
- While the ministry's curriculum provides for experiments,
the Ministry itself does not allow them to take place
- In our laboratories, instruments and materials are useless due to their non-use
- Biology is the only non-laboratory science course
The Ministry of Education:
- Challenges the positive opinion of the Commissioner for the Protection of the Rights of the Child
- Challenges the positions of university professors who agree with the laboratoryization
At our side we have:
- Organized parents
- Organized students
- Many branches of teachers
- University professors of Biology who agree with the laboratory
We will fight until the end:
- For the laboratoryization of the Biology course
- Why we can not remain inactive, unless the lesson of Biology is taught experimentally
- Because our students do not acquire the necessary laboratory skills that are necessary for their studies
The events will take place on Tuesday 7-12-2021, time 9.45 am, outside the following provincial schools.
