"When my husband finally died, he told us a dry 'life to you' and hung up the phone," the wife of a patient with treatable lung cancer testified to the Mixed Jury Court, choosing Dr. Konto as his "treating doctor." to die in 2016 at the Hospital of Larissa, completely weakened and with lymph node metastasis.
The witness told the court that they came in contact with the allegedly distinguished scientist, at the urging of a relative of the family, who told them that the accused helped a friend of hers to overcome the disease.
"When in November 2016 we found out that my husband had cancer, the doctors told us to do chemotherapy. He had it in his right lung and doctors said it could be treated. At one point a woman from our family spoke to us about "Doctor Konto".
My husband had the first chemotherapy. So he told us that this doctor was working abroad and had found the cure for cancer. "He found his phone from an acquaintance of hers who had a doctor", said the witness and went on to say that from the first contact he had with "Dr Kontos", he urged them not to give the patient chemotherapy because "with the drugs that give us it will be done well ".
"He brought us some preparations, 10-12 bottles. He said that they are herbal extracts that are also available abroad. She told us that she is a neurologist-oncologist at a clinic in Switzerland and that she operated on small children at Ms. Vardinogianni's oncology clinic.
He told us that my husband would be fine. He was a calm man, he did not refer us anywhere else, to something suspicious. The injection, said the witness, was of artemisinin and was given to the patient's abdomen: "But my husband was constantly falling. I said we could not keep him at home and we went to the hospital. I did not give him the herbs there because I could not in the hospital.
It was found that he had metastasized to the lymph nodes and it was a matter of days. I ask the hospital doctor and he told us to do radiation. We were told to go to Athens, but he wanted 15 days.
